I will share FIVE productivity hacks that will assist you in increasing your productivity while creating the lifestyle business that you want.
One way to maintain focus is to create a “scrum board.” A scrum board is a white board that we use at Fitness Business Mastery that allows us to brain dump. We basically dump every thought onto the board and move them across as they get accomplished.
On the left-hand corner, we write down all of the projects that need to get done. Then to the right of that, we have a “to-do” list. This list is composed of what we want to do in the next seven days. To the right of that, “doing” is what we are to do on that specific day. Once we get to doing, we move it over to “Done.” It may sound simple, but it is easy to feel overwhelmed until you write it down. And writing it down this way allows you to be accountable to get more done throughout the week.
We are not machines. We are people, so it’s hard to work all day without stopping. At FBM, we recommend a 50-10 rule: Work 50 minutes, and then take a 10-minute break. During that 10-minute break, do something that gives you a charge: grab a cup of tea, do some push-ups, do a quick meditation…anything that gets your mind off of the work that you were doing for 50 minutes. At the end of that break, you will return rejuvenated and recharged.
In our society today, we have too many things going on that serve as a distraction. We have Facebook, instant messenger, phone calls, texts….there are dings going off virtually every 3 minutes. So when you are in the middle of a task, unplug completely. Without the distraction, the work will get done.
Set a theme for your day. So, for example, on Wednesdays we have “Content Wednesday.” That is a day where we focus on working on content to get messages across to you, like videos and articles. We start with a target like, “Today we are going to write 4 articles.” When you have a target, you have a goal, and this allows you to hit it.
This is a tricky one. Many of you will hear that you need to outsource to be successful. But if you are in the start-up phase of your business, this can be costly and difficult. So early on in the game it is crucial that you wear multiple hats and AVOID outsourcing. In the beginning, you need to keep your payroll small and do most of it yourself. But don’t worry- the lifestyle will eventually come. As you grow, you can hire an admin or someone to help with marketing….We outsource graphic design, videography, and administrative tasks, to name a few. But in the beginning, we did all of that ourselves. It was a great learning experience for us, and we were able to produce quality products as time went on.
